What is a camp day program like?
Each camp’s activities will center around a theme, however, the rhythm of the day will stay familiar. Our camp day begins together with a social game. The first activity will be introduced, and after instruction and a demonstration, campers have time to work on a new skill, while their teacher is live to offer help and build relationships. Any non-nature materials needed will be provided in their packets before camp. Campers are encouraged to practice these skills outside, but instructions will be included for how to adapt activities for inside when going out is not an option.
After challenge time, campers will come back together as a group to have a chance to share their progress and share another experience (a game, story or activity) on the camp theme. A second activity will build on the skill of the first, and campers will have a chance to tackle it, while the instructor stays live for questions. Campers meet back to showcase what they’ve been working on one last time, close the day with some play, and receive one last challenge using their new skills to share with their family.
Do I need to be present with my child during this program?
No. We have crafted our program to help campers try new age-appropriate skills independently. You are certainly welcome to enjoy our programs too, but parents are not expected to attend while Geoventures engages your children. However, younger kids may need assistance getting into our zoom sessions in the mornings. Also, please note, our program encourages performing camp activities outdoors when possible, in age-appropriate ways. Set guidelines with your child before camp about where they may go during the camp session. Every activity can also be performed indoors during the camp program, then applied outdoors when.
